New horizons.

Earlier this year, writer Chadner Navarro bravely faced his fear of birds while cruising in South America, chancing up-close pelican and cormorant encounters to write his enticing account of wildflower-packed island hikes, desert sculptures, and ancient geoglyphs. Read more about his Peru-to-Chile sailing below, and don’t miss our closer look at that floating restaurant you’ve been seeing all over social media.

CHECKING IN
Belinda Bennett, wearing a captain’s uniform, smiles from a Windstar ship near the coast.

Windstar Cruises’ Belinda Bennett, the first Black woman to captain a commercial cruise ship, shares what she’s been loving lately.

Reading: Clive Cussler is an all-time favorite author of mine. His books are full of adventure and classic treasure hunts – good escapist fun for when I want to relax and unwind.

Listening to: A friend recently introduced me to Joan Armatrading, a singer-songwriter with a 50-year career. I love getting lost in her music.

Shopping: The Wind Spirit is heading back to the Mediterranean next year, and I cannot pass Sorrento without picking up some good Italian leather handbags.

Dreaming of: I grew up on the remote island of Saint Helena, and when I’m on leave from Windstar, I spend most of my time there. I’m also planning a trip to scenic Vancouver, British Columbia – I don’t sail on Windstar’s Alaska voyages, so the city isn’t a usual stop for me.

OUTBOUND

Our hearts go out to the people of North Africa after recent natural disasters. Join us in supporting recovery efforts if you can.

Bhutan recently dropped the rate of its sustainable tourism fee for visitors (and also we’ve recently become obsessed with Bhutanese artists Twinz). ICYMI, here are some must-scroll pictures of the great golden retriever get-together in Scotland earlier this year. We’re signing up for this new pantry box subscription of Italian staples from a beloved chef. Don’t forget to bookmark this year’s fall foliage tracker for autumn getaways.
