Welcome to Virtuoso, The Journal, a biweekly newsletter packed with travel inspiration, tips, and insight from Virtuoso’s editorial team.
Stories we love.
This week, we’re proud to share the May/June issue of Virtuoso, The Magazine – consider it your essential guide to vacationing in Europe, complete with an ode to the oh-so-Parisian pleasure of simply wandering. We’ve also just launched a new hub for sustainability, where you’ll find stories and inspiration that prove the future of travel is bright.
Hotelier Sara Maestrelli, owner of Forte dei Marmi’s Villa Roma Imperiale and Venice’s forthcoming Violino d’Oro, shares what she’s been loving lately.
Packing: A pair of velvet slippers from Piedàterre because they fit any occasion, a vintage Loro Piana cashmere kimono (my comfort sweater), and my UND yoga pants so I can find my flow everywhere I go. Reading:Confessions of an Art Addict – Peggy Guggenheim’s autobiography. Admiring: The glass factory Venini is a longtime favorite – we worked with them to design the custom chandeliers that will hang at Violino d’Oro. A more recent discovery for me is Studio Bojola, run by a young Florentine designer who handcrafts flamboyant crystal vases that will be all over our libraries at Violino.
There’s still time to celebrate National Park Week in the U.S. this weekend – check out the event calendar here. Nonograms are challenging, beautiful Japanese crossword puzzles that make ideal security-line distractions. This year's James Beard Award Finalists were just announced – ask your travel advisor to snag you a reservation next time you're near these restaurants. Calling all rebels: You can now get married at The Punk Rock Museum in Las Vegas. And for our toast to the weekend, we’d like an aperitif in Maison Balzac’s spritz glass, please.
